The Da’wah Strategy of Gus Dur: A Model for Promoting Religious Tolerance: Strategi Dakwah Gus Dur: Sebuah Model Dalam Memperkenalkan Toleransi Beragama

Abstract

This study attempts to examine the da’wah strategy of K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) in promoting religious tolerance as part of the practice of cultural preaching. Through literature study approach, this study attempts to examine Gus Dur's ideas and da’wah practices. In its implementation, Gus Dur displays critical thinking that emphasizes the importance of peace and respect for differences by always prioritizing the values of humanism, inclusivity, and respect for diversity.
His da’wah strategy always emphasizes universal Islamic messages that are oriented towards justice and peace. Gus Dur's critical thinking on religiosity places religious tolerance as the main principle in society. Gus Dur's da’wah model can be said to be relevant to building harmony between religious communities in Indonesia.
