Edukimbiosis: Jurnal Pendidikan IPA is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal. Every manuscript submitted to Edukimbiosis: Jurnal Pendidikan IPA for publication undergoes a peer review process. Peer review in this journal is an evaluation of the submitted manuscript by two or more individuals with similar expertise to the author. The aim is to assess the academic work’s eligibility for publication. The peer-review method is used to maintain quality standards and provide credibility to the manuscript. The peer review process in Edukimbiosis: Jurnal Pendidikan IPA consists of nine steps, described as follows:

  1. Submission of Manuscript
The corresponding or submitting author submits the manuscript to the journal. This is done through the online system supported by the Open Journal System (OJS). However, to facilitate authors, submissions are temporarily also accepted via email.
  2. Editorial Office Assessment
Initially, the manuscript is evaluated by the editors of the Edukimbiosis Jurnal Pendidikan IPA. The editors check whether the submission fits the journal's focus and scope. The composition and structure of the manuscript are evaluated based on the journal's Author Guidelines to ensure it includes the required sections and language style. At this stage, a preliminary quality assessment is conducted, including identification of any major methodological flaws. Each submitted manuscript that passes this stage is screened using Turnitin to assess the similarity index and check for plagiarism before being sent to reviewers.
  3. Editor-in-Chief's Evaluation
The Editor-in-Chief reviews whether the manuscript is suitable for the journal, sufficiently original, interesting, and significant enough to warrant publication. If not, the manuscript may be rejected without further review.
  4. Invitation to Reviewers
The handling editor sends invitations to individuals deemed appropriate reviewers (also known as referees) based on their expertise, relevance to the research field, and absence of conflict of interest. The peer review process in Edukimbiosis: Jurnal Pendidikan IPA focuses on key issues in the development of sciences in both biology, physics, and chemistry. The Journal also addresses general issues in biology, physics, and chemistry. Impartiality is ensured through the use of a double-blind review, where reviewers do not know the identity of the authors and vice versa. Manuscripts are sent to reviewers anonymously.
  5. Response to Invitations
Potential reviewers consider the invitation in terms of their expertise, conflicts of interest, and availability. They then decide whether to accept or decline the invitation. In the invitation letter, the editor may ask reviewers who decline to suggest alternative reviewers.
  6. Review is Conducted
Reviewers allocate time to read the manuscript multiple times. The first reading forms a general impression of the work. If major issues are identified at this stage, the reviewer may feel justified in rejecting the manuscript without further effort. Otherwise, the manuscript is read multiple times more thoroughly, and detailed point-by-point comments are prepared. The review is then submitted to the journal with a recommendation to accept, reject, or request revisions (typically marked as major or minor) before reconsideration.
  7. Journal Evaluates the Reviews
The Editor-in-Chief and handling editor consider all returned reviews before making an overall decision. If the reviews vary significantly, the handling editor may invite additional reviewers to gain further insight before making a final decision.
  8. Decision Communicated
The editor sends a decision email to the author, including relevant reviewer comments. Reviewer comments are shared anonymously with the author for necessary action and response. At this point, reviewers also receive an email or letter notifying them of the outcome of their review.
  9. Final Steps
If accepted, the manuscript is sent for copy-editing. If the article is rejected or returned to the author for major or minor revisions, the handling editor includes constructive comments from reviewers to help the author improve the article. Authors must correct and revise the manuscript according to reviewer comments and instructions.

After the revisions are made, the author must resubmit the revised manuscript to the editor.

If the manuscript is returned for revision, reviewers should expect to receive the revised version, unless they have opted out of further participation. However, if only minor changes are requested, the follow-up review may be conducted by the handling editor.

If the editor is satisfied with the revised manuscript, it is considered accepted. Accepted papers are published online and are freely available as downloadable PDF files.
