Abstrak

The discipline of literary science emerged when scholars began questioning the very nature of literary works, and it developed only after those works were created to be enjoyed aesthetically; each author employs a unique style to express ideas and convey the meanings and concepts held in their mind. This study uses a library‑research method, beginning with repeated readings of the selected texts to grasp their content fully, supplemented by relevant secondary sources. It focuses on the Arabic poems of Imam al‑Shafiʿi, compiled into a single volume around the themes of death, divinity, and the pursuit of knowledge, which are classical in form and rich in moral counsel and wisdom. Selected poems were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively to identify their defining literary elements. The analysis concludes that Imam al‑Shafiʿi’s poetry is characterized by four key affective qualities: authenticity of feeling (Shidq al‑Shidq al‑ʿAṭīfah), where emotions arise genuinely; intensity of feeling (Quwwah al‑ʿAṭīfah), a calm yet powerful emotional presence; variety of feeling (Tanawwuʿ al‑ʿAṭīfah), the ability to evoke diverse emotions such as love, enthusiasm, admiration, sympathy, and pride; and perseverance of feeling (Thabāt al‑ʿAṭīfah), the sustained emotional tone that ensures lasting impact. These qualities deepen readers’ appreciation of the poems and underscore their enduring literary value.
