Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to Kuriositas: Media Komunikasi Sosial dan Keagamaan undergo a rigorous double blind peer review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

Each submitted manuscript is first evaluated by the Editor in Chief or an assigned Handling Editor to assess its relevance to the journal’s focus and scope, compliance with the author guidelines, originality, and basic academic quality.

Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected or returned to authors for technical revision before entering the peer review stage.

Estimated duration: 1–2 weeks

2. Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are reviewed independently by at least two independent external expert reviewers who have no conflict of interest with the authors and are not affiliated with the same institution.

Reviewers are selected based on their expertise in the relevant field and are required to declare any potential conflict of interest prior to accepting a review invitation.

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on the following criteria:

• Originality and scholarly contribution
• Relevance between research objectives, methodology, and findings
• Quality and rigor of analysis
• Clarity of argumentation and academic communication
• Coherence of structure and logical flow
• Use of relevant and up to date scholarly literature

Reviewers are expected to conduct their reviews objectively, constructively, and confidentially. They must not use or disclose any information obtained through the peer review process for personal advantage.

Reviewers are not paid for their review work and participate on a voluntary and professional basis.

Estimated duration: 4–6 weeks

3. Author Revision

Authors are required to revise their manuscripts in accordance with the reviewers’ comments and the editor’s decision.

For minor revisions, authors are normally given 2 weeks.
For major revisions, authors are normally given 3–4 weeks.

All revised manuscripts must be accompanied by a detailed response to reviewers explaining how each comment has been addressed.

4. Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers’ reports and the revised manuscript, the Editor in Chief or the assigned Handling Editor makes one of the following decisions:

• Accept Submission
• Minor Revision Required
• Major Revision Required
• Resubmit for Review
• Decline Submission

In cases requiring substantial revision, the manuscript may be sent for a second round of peer review.

The final decision rests with the Editor in Chief.

Editors do not review manuscripts in which they have a personal, professional, or institutional conflict of interest. In such cases, the decision will be delegated to a designated senior editor to ensure impartiality.
